        Denstone Size Selection Guide

Denstone Support Media (logo) | Saint-Gobain NorPro In any fixed bed vessel it is essential to prevent migration of the catalyst or adsorbent through the bottom screens or distributor/collector. Denstone® support media, graded by size and layered in the bottom of your vessel, is used to retain the catalyst bed. The Denstone® support media size selection guide will help you identify the best support media configuration for your vessel based on the catalyst size, bottom screen opening and total available height for the support media. It will also show you how the configuration of standard Denstone® spheres compares with Denstone® deltaP® media to help you choose the best support media for your vessel.

Denstone® spherical support media is typically loaded so that the diameter of the media in each layer is no greater than 2x the diameter of the media in the adjacent layer.

The size of the catalyst or adsorbent determines the smallest support media size needed. Using the 2x concept, the diameter of the spherical support media directly below the catalyst bed should then be no greater than 2x the diameter of the catalyst. The largest support media size needed is determined by the size of the bottom screen opening.

A minimum depth of 100mm (4 in) is recommended for each layer of Denstone® spherical support media.

Denstone® deltaP® support media is engineered to use only two layers of media, which allows for a simpler support media configuration.

Size P1 is loaded directly below the catalyst bed in place of the smaller size standard spheres. Depending on the size of the bottom screen opening, a second layer of size P1.4 or size P2 may be used in the bottom of the vessel.

A minimum depth of 100mm (4 in) is recommended for each layer of Denstone® deltaP® media.
