Saint-Gobain NORPRO Acquires Stake in SICAT

Saint-Gobain NORPRO, a business unit of Saint-Gobain Ceramics, announces the acquisition of 50.1% shares in SICAT, manufacturer of Beta Silicon Carbide and Carbon Catalyst Supports.

SICAT manufactures highly technical catalyst support products with unique chemical, thermal and mechanical properties. SICAT products are uniquely suited for harsh conditions often found in catalyst applications connected to energy, biomass conversion and chemicals synthesis.

This acquisition will enable Saint-Gobain NORPRO to extend its carrier offerings within biofuel and clean energy spaces by adding beta SiC and Carbon products to its product portfolio.

Tihana Tresler, General Manager of NORPRO business unit, commented: “We are very pleased about the acquisition of this stake in SICAT, a well-recognized innovator in SiC and Carbon catalyst supports. NORPRO is dedicated to helping our customers by developing and quickly scaling up new catalyst supports needed for a successful green transition in the energy and chemical industries. SiC and Carbon are important material platforms in this space and we are excited to be able to introduce them to our customers.”

Jean-Bernard Lartigue, Chairman of SICAT, commented: “This partnership is both a recognition of SICAT contribution to the renewed catalyst demand in relation with energy savings goals for the chemical industry at large and a strong reinforcement of the scientific and commercial opportunities through a natural alliance between NORPRO and SICAT expertises.”
